What we wish we knew before we began the Transformationā¦
Anyone going through organizational transition of any kind will reap benefits from the wisdom and ābeen there done thatā ideas of Adan and Peter. The tone of the book is very conversational yet instructive at the same time.I loved the book- it is a gold mine filled with small, medium and large nuggets of tips and insights for virtually any organization at whatever stage they find themselves. But it is really about people and how to guide them through change.
I would recommend this book to any and all organizations for whom I have ever worked. Start-ups have the chance to get the most value from Adan and Peter because they could start at the beginning, but the big players would be smart to follow guidelines in this book instead of paying the millions they shell out annually for ānot that greatā insights from the big consulting firms which usually ends up advising them to get rid of resources/cut sales commissions/centralize functions. (We all know what it means when we see these consultants walking past us in the halls, or heaven forbid, asking us to participate in a focus group). I loved the style and format of the book and felt that I knew or have encountered many of the styles/organizations they have described. Principled leadership is a great concept and seen on lots of PowerPoints but having a tool for achieving this lofty (and truly attainable) goal is encouraging to see.

Experience from the trenches…
Just finished reading āRespect the Weedsā, by Pope & Buonfiglio. I was expecting another academic prescription on change management, leadership and disruption. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with a very personal and honest account of multiple experiences of successes and failures directly from the frontlines.
The book comprehensively highlights fundamentals of managing change along with the underlying systems, processes and people, while also discussing the real impact of leadership styles and plain human nature and how they may help or hinder the mission.
I was easily able to relate to the real-world examples and experiences the book is based on, and while it is an easy read, it is an easier way to gain valuable insights, that took the authors many decades to decipher, in a matter of hours. A must read for any current or aspiring leader looking to embrace change driven by technology and gain a substantial advantaged by leaning on the experience of others that have previously travelled this arduous path.
